Sometimes book surprise you in the best ways.

This write up does not do this book justice. I really enjoyed this and pretty much read it in one day. I picked it up because I wanted some nice easy reading, and I got that, but also got so much more. First of all it was written beautifully, and it has an exciting story line that keep you turning the pages excited to see what is happening next. There is romance, intrigue, combat, murder, and everything else you would expect out of a good tale. All the while the writing and atmosphere of the book make you feel like you are witnessing an old fashion fairy tale of old. And you are. This story I found is based on an old Grimm Fairy tale.

Princess Ani is a lonely girl who is born under mystery and magic. Early in her life her mother the Queen and others see that she is strange and has strange abilities, and she is pretty much discouraged from displaying these abilities and is a topic of much gossip and superstition. She is awkward and scared and has no self esteem because he fails at what she is supposed to be and everyone makes her feel weird. She is the first born and bound to become Queen, but after a tragedy, her mother informs her that she is to be sent to a neighboring warlike Kingdom to marry the first born Prince as a way to keep the peace. This had been decided for many years. Ani does not see this as an honor, but as her being set aside by a mother who thinks she is not good enough to be Queen...and really she is. this starts her perilous journey who she proves to herself and to the readers (who already know already), and she is worthy of being Queen and of receiving the loyalties of others just based on who she is, and her abilities should be looked on as gifts and not a handicap. She of course finds love on the way. A typical coming of age, be who you are tale.
